Getting Sensory Ready For The Holidays
Every advert will tell you that Christmas is a magical time, but this isn't usually the case for neurodivergent families.
We don't want to sound gloomy, but Christmas is often a time of dread more than excitement as there are so many opportunities for discomfort to offend our children's senses - jolly jumpers don't feel so jolly when they're making them too hot, do they?
It's all easier said than done though, isn't it? Partly because one of the biggest challenges with ADHD and Autism is that the emotions can feel so big, it's hard for your child to articulate or isolate specific feelings - so the fact that Christmas brings so many changes just puts them off the whole experience.
We know that it can be hard to plan Christmas when you're worried the surprises are too suspenseful, or relaxing the routines too much will remove anchors that help your child feel secure.
But here's the good news - YOUR kind of magic can still be found, it just looks a little different…
What if:
🎁 You could have calm conversations that help you both communicate worries before the overwhelm of Christmas arrives?
🎁 You don't have to be on tenterhooks at family gatherings because family members have already been made aware of the importance of boundaries and personal space?
🎁 Your child could feel safe to express that they are not okay? And because you're already aware of the sensory issues Christmas can bring, you just understood them?
This way, you could open up usually tricky dialogues more easily with your young people on which parts of the 'fun' of Christmas they can engage in or opt out of. And Christmas could have a chance to bring joy to the whole family.
This is why we have created a fantastic webinar trio for you - it's not quite the three wise men but it definitely IS three wise women who have in-depth knowledge and lived experience of the help they're bringing to you in this Christmas Curated bundle…

Transform Your Family's Christmas Experience
This combination of webinars will equip you to:
- Decode your child's sensory processing and needs because you understand when their nervous system is running the show under the surface
- Plan ahead knowing the impact of changing routines, mealtimes, Christmas clothing etc
- Communicate openly with your child and teach them two-way communication too ie boundaries, accommodations, encouraging saying no healthily etc
- Manage the stress of expectations ie gifts, finances, interactions and having a tool kit to reduce the build-up of stress in the run-up to Christmas
- Identify strategies and minimise demands to create a lower-demand Christmas that is manageable with much less overwhelm than typical Christmases
The Magic of Real Impact for Real Families
Christmas is fraught with stress for many people without additional sensory needs. It’s worse for those of us with heightened sensitivities! Imagine the difference this could make:
- To the child who would usually feel uncomfortably restless but you caught it early and minimised the changes this Christmas
- For siblings who didn't understand why their brother or sister has outbursts at the smallest of things, but now through wisened eyes, they see it's not a small thing at all
- To the child who wouldn't want aunts and grandparents hugging them or asking questions they freeze up on, but you gave relatives a few conversation topics instead and updated them on the new no-hugs policy
These three webinars will help you understand the many layers hiding underneath the external behaviour, to enable nurturing and compassionate conversations.
The trick to a calmer Christmas is knowing in advance what your children find challenging. My ethos behind everything I do for The PDA Space is to meet your child where they are at, but Christmas seems to have a very 'typical' energy which is a neurodivergent child's worst nightmare!
Give Your Family Permission to Create your OWN Christmas
The wise men brought gold, frankincense and myrrh - we bring you calm, communication and bandwidth!
This webinar series is designed to help your child and family navigate and enjoy the holiday season by meeting their unique sensory needs. When you know about sensory processing and how it impacts your child, you can create practical strategies for sensory preparation, strategies, and accommodations so your family can cope with and enjoy the holiday season.
And that’s what this bundle brings - a slightly different flavour of seasonal joy!
